Kalevalakehto
Running around Seurasaari Island again today. The December sun was setting at 3pm. I stopped at a beautiful smooth rock shore to examine a boat-like building called Kalevalakehto. It was designed and constructed in 2010 by students under the mentorship of American architect Travis Price.
The themes of the building are derived from the Finnish national epic Kalevala: the birth myth, the mysteries of Sampo, and the non-linear and cyclical time represented by the shamanic character Väinämöinen. Kalevalakehto is intended for small gatherings and meditation.
