Kilian Jornet is ready for WS 100

Many believe that Kilian Jornet has a great chance of winning Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run tomorrow.

Who is this modest 22-year-old guy? Well, he has won Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in two previous years, he is a ski mountaineer most of the year, and he runs for happiness. Find out more in the video bio below.

Kilian got interviewed in Squaw Valley yesterday, before his first race in America.

Kilian loves mountains; check out this training video shot in Pyrenees a fortnight ago. Kilian ran coast to coast from Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean in eight days - just for fun, but it's a new record for sure.

There will be a live webcast during the race. Kilian's bib is 35.

Other interesting runners to follow include twice-in-a-row winner Hal Koerner (M1); Geoff Roes who has never lost a 100-miler (11); Miwok 100K 2010 winner Anton Krupicka (18); Michael 'Fruitarian' Arnstein who attempts to complete his first 100-miler with nothing but fruits and vegs (79); a fellow blogger Will Cooper (140); and another young European Ian Sharman (407).

Thanks for checking this blog out Michelle. I'd recommend your website www.frugivorelifestyle.com for all runners.

Hi Jakuko,

Thank you for recommending my site :).

Do you have an email address where I can send you an email? It is regarding a scientific study being conducted on long-term raw vegans. Please email frugivore@frugivorelifestyle.com and I will have Susan the forum moderator send you the information.

I wish you an awesome summer and all the best with your running ☺.

Michelle

What about the Fruitarians, did any of them reach the finish line? I was hoping the kid Kilian Jornet would win. I liked his interview :) He sounded very humble.

There were only 2 fruitarians (frugivores really) I'm sure of in the race. They published a video of their 1000 lbs fruit & veg stash for the race! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU7KBUzXlqM

Jamil Coury finished 58th in 21:41, which is a good result. Unfortunately Mike Arnstein had a bad day and he dropped after struggling 85 miles. This was his first 100-mile trail run, so next time he'll do much better.

The winner Geoff Roes is a vegetarian or maybe even vegan, but I have no idea how much raw fruits & vegs he is able to find in Alaska.

Wow! That’s an amazing clip :) Thank you for sharing it with me. I wanted to eat all those heirloom tomatoes in the clip ☺.

21:41 is good time for Jamil Coury especially on an all-raw diet. I agree with you they are not fruitarians they are frugivores. I wonder why they call themselves Fruitarians.

Hopefully they will be better prepared next year. If they sleep more, practice running, meditate and eat all raw they will both get a title next year ☺.

I would like to know what Geoff Roes was eating during his run ☺ not bad for a vegan.

Happy existence, consciousness and bliss.

I did quick online research on Geoff Roes diet. It seems he prefers "real food" during races with lots of variety: it could be bananas, sandwiches, or a warm meal, whatever.

3 years ago he blogged about his vegetarian diet being loose, mentioning it contains dairy, eggs, grains, fish and even poultry! So he definitely wasn't a vegan or even real vegetarian back then, and probably still isn't.

I recently saw some Geoff's comments in Scott Jurek's blog (who is a famous vegan ultrarunner), and assumed he must be a vegan too. Sorry, my mistake!
