TransEurope Footrace 2009 begins in Bari, Italy. Finland's ultrastar Janne Kankaansyrjä is 9th after stage 1.
The 68 brave competitors (12 women, 56 men) have still a long way to go through Italy, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Finland and Norway before they may reach Nordkapp on June 21st - 4486 km (2787 miles) in 64 stages (longest stage 95 km) to be exact.
